“Vessel of Life”

At the end of May, I came to Tainan, living and working surrounded by trees, animals, and insects. One day, while strolling around, I saw a dark brown seed pod of the golden rain tree thrust into the land. This scene aroused my attention. In the 17th century, during the Dutch colonial period, golden rain trees were introduced to Tainan for the use of fort batteries, farm tools, shipbuilding materials, and so on. The golden rain trees are still blooming to this day. To us, in different historical contexts, the golden rain trees have different roles and meanings. However, for the golden rain trees, nature, and this land, life is circling.

Life expresses its original fact from one generation to the next, growing, thriving, withering away, and sprouting again, regardless of whether the plants were introduced to new places or native ones. The land witnesses and embraces all, including you, me, the environment, and history.

Land is the vessel of life.
